Improving Children's Health
One of the many ways we are helping to improve the oral health of underserved Indiana children is through the grantmaking of the Delta Dental Foundation. Grants are made to community-based organizations that provide dental treatment and/or oral health education to children who have limited access to regular dental care.
The following are examples of programs the Delta Dental Foundation has supported in Indiana communities:
SEAL Indiana, a mobile dental sealant program, operated by the Indiana University School of Dentistry, offers preventive services such as examinations, dental sealants and fluoride varnish treatments. The program, funded in part with a $75,000 grant made in 2008 by the Delta Dental Foundation, travels to schools within a 120-mile radius of Indianapolis to treat children from low-income families who are not receiving or do not have access to routine dental care.
Delta Dental also sponsors a youth mouthguard program for young people participating in sports camps to promote the importance of wearing a mouthguard to protect against mouth injuries and concussions.
