Indiana University Dental Graduate Receives Delta Dental Foundation Student Leadership Award
June 21, 007 (Okemos, Mich.) —Kristine E. Donnelly, a recent graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD), has been honored with a Delta Dental Foundation Student Leadership Award and a cash gift of $2,500.
Donnelly, of Hammond, Ind., was selected by the dean of her school for her outstanding leadership and willingness to volunteer in the dental profession and community.
Throughout her scholastic career, Donnelly has participated in pediatric dentistry activities including Give Kids a Smile! Day and a statewide mobile dental sealant program. She also volunteered on a regular basis at the Trinity Free Dental Clinic. In addition to her volunteer work, Donnelly has engaged in dental research, earning an award for her research project on orthodontic patients.
Donnelly ranked 11th in her class of 93 students and was a Dean’s List recipient for four of the seven semesters she attended IUSD. She has been recognized for her academic merit through numerous scholarships and awards, including an Omicron Kappa Upsilon scholarship in 2004 and a Price/Hufford scholarship in 2006.
Donnelly will enter the pediatric dentistry residency program at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Donnelly received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind.
Each year, the Delta Dental Foundation grants an award to one dental student from each of the dental schools in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Since 1982, the Delta Dental Foundation has awarded 74 Student Leadership Awards totaling more than $137,000.
Delta Dental Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, seeks to support education and research for the advancement of dental science and to promote the oral health of the public through education and service activities, particularly for those with special needs.
