Oral cancer can be deadly, no matter the cause. While it’s most common in people over age 50, the fastest growing segment of newly diagnosed cases is nonsmoking young adults. In fact, more than 70 percent of all oral cancers are related to human papillomavirus (HPV).* Your dentist checks for signs of oral cancer at preventive visits, but you can also perform self-exams at home.
